By Amanda Charnley-Armstrong
In this series I share my thoughts about the magical "Ruby Matic"
Ruby Matic is a queer, autistic artist hailing from the sun-soaked landscapes of Arizona. Their work is a vibrant fusion of nature’s beauty, whimsical fantasy, and the boundless wonder of the cosmos. Bright, saturated colors and crisp, clean edges define their signature style, creating a sense of clarity and depth within each piece.
Mystical creatures, often serving as guiding forces, are a recurring theme in their art, offering viewers a sense of magic and meaning woven into every brushstroke. Using a meticulous layering technique with acrylic paints, Ruby Matic’s work reveals hidden hues and subtle shifts in color—details that unfold for those who take the time to truly look. This enchanting painting transports us to a dreamlike realm where magic and mystery intertwine. A majestic, ethereal hare with a coat of soft, icy blues and delicate pink undertones sits poised beneath a starlit violet sky. Its elongated ears, adorned with swirling patterns, suggest an otherworldly wisdom, while a golden set of antlers crowns its head like a celestial guardian.
The creature's eyes glow with a mesmerizing crimson hue, holding secrets of an ancient world. Embedded in its form, an ornate sword with a crystalline blade pierces through, not as a wound, but as a symbol of resilience and enchantment. The hilt flourishes with gilded embellishments, resembling something pulled from an age-old legend.
Around this mystical being, lily-of-the-valley blossoms arch gracefully, their pale pink bells whispering secrets of the fae. Shamrocks and curling vines sprout beneath its paws, hinting at luck, fate, and the hidden magic of nature. Above, a radiant celestial symbol casts a soft glow, illuminating this surreal scene with cosmic energy.
The entire composition feels like a story suspended in time—a tale of strength, beauty, and the unseen forces that guide the universe. This painting is not merely a piece of art; it is a portal to a place where myths live and breathe, where the line between reality and fantasy dissolves into a world of endless possibility.

This striking painting exudes a mystical energy, capturing the essence of a wild spirit untamed. The fiery hues of the fox’s fur blend seamlessly into the golden autumn leaves, as if nature itself is alive within it. Its piercing, star-speckled eyes hold a quiet wisdom, a reminder to trust our instincts and embrace transformation.
There’s a certain magic in this piece—like a guardian of unseen realms, whispering secrets of the forest. It’s both fierce and serene, embodying the balance between intuition and curiosity. A perfect symbol of resilience, change, and the beauty of the untamed soul.

This mesmerizing painting embodies the spirit of nature itself—a guardian of the wild, woven from earth, leaves, and ancient roots. The figure emerges from the depths of the forest, their features sculpted by the energy of growth and renewal. Vines drape like cascading whispers, mushrooms bloom in sacred clusters, and their eyes, deep and knowing, seem to hold the wisdom of the land.
There is something both ethereal and powerful in this piece—like a reminder that nature is alive, watching, and intertwined with our own existence. It speaks to resilience, the cycle of life, and the beauty of being deeply connected to the earth. It invites us to honor the wild places, both around us and within.
