Artist Statement
My desire for new discoveries, growth, uniqueness and wanting to convey energy in my work is why I select the experimental painting process. I believe art is analogous to life, with decisions, and adaptations leading the way toward a completion. Clyfford Still equated vertical lines with life and horizontal lines with death. I equate death with static non-change and life with change, movement and energy.
Art is also therapeutic for me-I think that analyzing the elements that unconsciously appear in a painting allows for a better understanding of the self, I begin with nothing preconceived that will become present in the piece. I simply start spontaneously applying paint until a composition is suggested. Then I bring the piece to completion through addition and subtraction of elements.
With this show at Blo Back Gallery, I invite the viewers to take a closer look to see how the placement and movement of color creates the different elements and forms that make a unified composition. You will find that the more you look, the more you will see. I am hopeful that the more you see, the more you will understand and this will guide you to an increased appreciation for pure abstract art.
Your feedback is appreciated and all questions are welcome. Thank you for your support of the arts.
Be sure to follow the opening on Friday, May 8 via our Facebook Page.
